Many
PDF readers are so bloated that they consume plenty of system resources
unnecessarily. If you want a lightweight but effective free PDF reader
that will speed up your system, then GeniusPDF is for you. This ebook
reader will make you enjoy reading your ebooks on your computer whether
they are inspirational, research or comic ebooks.
GeniusPDF is compatible with several other ebook formats besides PDF,
including CBR, CBZ, MOBI, DJVU and EPUB, which makes it more versatile
than many ebook readers, even many of the premium ones.
Using Genius PDF
When we clicked on the "finish" button after installing GeniusPDF in
less than 20 seconds, the free PDF reader opened almost instantly. For a
moment, we thought the program wanted us to open help file because it
took less than half of the screen, being right in the middle of the
screen. We expanded it and it covered the entire screen.
If you are used to some common PDF readers, then the toolbar will
appear almost bare to you. It has menus for File, View, Zoom, Favorites,
Settings and Help. There is also a link for opening a document, which
takes you directly to your Documents folder. The next time you use the
ebook reader, it will take you to the folder you accessed last.
Once we opened a file, the lower toolbar became active, with options
for printing, putting page number, going to the next or previous page,
fitting page and showing pages continuously, fitting a single page,
zooming in or out and finding keywords. Before opening any file, only
the open button was active. The Match Case button allowed us to narrow
down our searches by displaying only the results that matched the way we
wrote what we wanted.
When we closed and re-opened the comic book reader, it displayed the
files we had recently opened. Clicking any of these files took us
directly to the page we read last. However, the settings panel gave us
the option to disable remembering of opened files. Other things you can
set include default zoom and layout, displaying bookmarks sidebar when
available, replacing document colors with Windows color scheme and
remembering settings for each document.
The program opened the files very fast. It took less than three
seconds to open an ebook made from scanned images, which was about
100MB.
We like using keyboard shortcuts, and were pleased to find that the
program responded to several shortcuts we used with other PDF readers.
For example, clicking "cntrl + 2" would fit the pages to the program’s
width.
If you want more help on how to use GeniusPDF, you can access an online user manual via the Help menu.
Verdict
GeniusPDF is a lightweight free PDF reader that performs better than
many heavyweight programs. It renders both text and images quickly
without loss of quality. The program easily opens several ebook formats,
which removes the need to install different ebook applications.
